Why it’s worth it:

See how Gelu licensees turned flavor into freedom.

james’ Story

In 2023, James H. bought a concession business at NRG Stadium and quickly realized his ice cream supplier couldn’t keep up and that’s when he discovered Gelu.

After tasting the product and seeing the variety and learning it’s locally made in Houston with next-day delivery, he made the switch, license fee and all.

Within weeks, Gelu outsold his previous offerings. Today, 16 Gelu stands operate at major events like the Houston Rodeo, NFL games, and concerts.

Their boozy Gelu21 even outsells full bars at times. Now with a van and truck, James has taken Gelu beyond the stadium and straight into Houston’s biggest events.

Ann’s Story

Ann S., a mother of five sports-driven kids, first spotted Gelu at a softball tournament and spent nearly two years exploring competitors before calling.

Her family even tried samples that sat untouched in the freezer — despite five kids in the house. She started with a single pushcart at her daughter’s tournament and made over $1,000 on day one, with a competitor truck at the same event.

Her husband Jake, once a skeptic, is now their best salesperson.

Today they run a van, their kids ages 12 to 19 all work the business, and the family has taken a cruise and a trip to Europe.

Gelu did that.

Judy L’s Story

Judy L. spent 15 years as a teacher and school counselor before discovering Gelu at a park during her daughter’s volleyball practice.

She visited the truck so often she eventually asked about becoming a licensee. Starting with a van, she quickly expanded to a trailer, two box trucks, and several carts.

By embedding herself in her community through fundraisers, Chamber events, and youth sports,

Judy grew sales to over $300K annually for two consecutive years.

Her team of friends and fellow teachers helped her earn awards for Best Food Truck, Best Frozen Dessert, Most Philanthropic, and Business of the Month.

No. This is a licensee opportunity, not a franchise. That means more flexibility for you, fewer restrictions, and no royalty or marketing fees.

A licensee is someone who operates under an existing brand using its name, systems, and support — but with more operational freedom than a franchisee. You get the benefit of Gelu’s reputation and tools while keeping more control.

Licensees have reported annual sales ranging from $30,000 to over $500,000. Your success depends on your drive, creativity, and effort. Some licensees work part-time for fun, others go full-time and scale up.

Your contacts, schedule, work ethic, and marketing approach all play a role. Popular strategies include setting up at corporate events, schools, churches, festivals, sports games, farmers markets, and small local businesses.

No, while some Gelu licensees have been business owners previously, many have not. It is a simple business model and hands-on training will be provided to ensure every opportunity for success.

No. Since the nature of the Gelu food truck business model is mobile, specific territories are not assigned (with a couple exceptions). However, care is taken by Gelu not add more than one licensee for every 250,000 in population for an area.

Yes! A licensee may add as many trucks, trailers, vans, carts or even fixed locations as desired with a single license – within one state. If expansion is desired to a second state, then a second license must be obtained.

Yes, upon approval of Gelu ownership and a minimal transfer fee to cover training the new license owner.

Gelu will most likely become a franchise in the future and if this happens, all existing licensees will be grandfathered into the franchise model under the existing terms and conditions as their license.

A good rule of thumb is about 90 days. This will allow time to decide on and purchase the vehicle of choice (trailer, van, truck) and get the food truck conversion completed, including the graphic wrap for the vehicle.

Since Gelu is not a franchise and does not charge royalties, licensees are not required to disclose their total sales or profits. However, there are currently licensees who are retired and work only a couple of events each week, grossing about $800-$1500 per week in sales. Other licensees have multiple units and achieve sales of over $500K annually.
